12 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in Grenada

The Ministry of Health announces the confirmation of 12 new cases of Covid-19 in Grenada.

6 of the cases are imported. Those individuals arrived in Grenada in the last week, went directly into quarantine and tested positive on day 4. The other 6 individuals are locals who are connected to the previously reported cluster. All are in quarantine and are asymptomatic or exhibiting very mild symptoms.

As challenging as the last 2 weeks have been, health officials are encouraged that the number of positive cases has not spiralled out of control in a manner that overwhelms the healthcare system. In fact, as new positive individuals are added to the case count, a number of other individuals are being medically cleared, thus resulting in a decreasing active case count.

The current number of active cases is 46.

Understanding the demands of the holiday season with the influx of travellers, as well as the local epidemiological situation, laboratory technicians worked through the Christmas holidays to test hundreds of exposed or potentially exposed locals and travellers who came into Grenada for the holiday season and needed to clear quarantine. In addition to those, hundreds of other individuals also had to be retested to ascertain their true status, or to be medically cleared after their incubation period.

It has been, and continues to be a challenge, but the laboratory technicians and the team at the Health Desk continue to work assiduously to prove themselves equal to the task, testing and working to deliver results in as timely a manner as possible.

The Ministry continues to solicit the patience of the public, as well as its cooperation, as officials work to address every aspect of this current health challenge.

Through all the work done over the Christmas holidays, and with the compliance and sacrifices of most of the population, there were still reports of several individuals, families, and businesses disregarding the rules for social gatherings, physical distancing and the wearing of masks in public spaces. Already stretched resources had to be deployed to address those reports of non-compliance, which put us all at enhanced risk for contracting Covid-19.

Again, the Ministry implores the support of the public, as together, we battle this deadly disease. No one wants a situation in which today’s flouting of the rules results in a spike in cases tomorrow-or worse, any resultant loss of lives stemming from careless and selfish behaviour.

The Ministry of Health also appeals for all to work together to contain the virus, so that we can all look forward to the day when the traditions of the holiday season, and every other season of the years to come, will once more be celebrated freely.

Jackie, you’re absolutely right your thinking and writing is complete nonsense. You don’t know or don’t care to know if those 6 people are Grenadian nationals returing home or tourist coming to spend the holidays. Grenada didn’t openup to welcome sick people Remember if you have Covid-19 virus Grenada is one of the last place on your itinerary. (Lack of health care )So pls. Jackie use some common sense and don’t be so pity and stupid

Jut remember this world-wide Covid misery was a gift from China. And they are quietly sneeking up on Grenada to turn it into Chinada. Wait… quietly no, they are right there everyday building their hold on the island. They pay government officials to sign papers and open doors for them. If you trust China you are a fool.

I am a US citizen who is extremely grateful to have been afforded the ability to live in Grenada since the beginning of this pandemic. I congratulate the Prime Minister and health authorities for the consistent leadership they have exhibited that has kept Grenadians and guests safe. The measures put in place to safely open the country to tourists have jeopardized this safety and I plead all non-nationals to appreciate the gift you have afforded and both respect and adhere to all recommended and mandated restrictions.

    Dear 6 imported cases..
The government should charge you lot a lot of money for the Covid-19 test. We already don’t have any money..so we should waste the little on you lot.
Secondly, Grenada don’t have to apologise for anything to you all. You come here from heavily infected countries…stay in quarantine and then go back to where you came from..what don’t you all understand about COVID-19 ..you can have no symptoms and be infected but you come here to spread it. It’s like the world would pass if you didnot come here for Christmas…nonsense. If people behave properly this virus would not have been everywhere. In response. I am expecting a whole lot of nonsense…but I am just saying how I feel.

it’s time to stop warning people and start imposing fines on those who fail to comply with the law. Too many people walking around without a mask. This is insane.
