Approximately 8,000 persons in Grenada have received their first injection of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine, since the immunisation campaign started last month.

Although the vaccination is not compulsory, there is a drive to encourage as many of the population as possible to take the vaccine as a means of protecting themselves and others from the severe effects of the Covid-19 virus.

The campaign recently got financial support with a donation of EC$70,000 from the FirstCaribbean ComTrust Foundation, the charitable arm of CIBC FirstCaribbean Bank. The presentation to aid the government’s vaccination programme was made to Minister of Finance Hon. Gregory Bowen. He thanked the bank for its support noting that other corporate entities in Grenada had also expressed support for the vaccination campaign.

New Country Manager of CIBC FirstCaribbean, Andre Cadogan, took the opportunity to congratulate Grenada on being recently recognised by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a country with Level 1 travel risk. “Vaccination remains one of the key weapons in the arsenal against Covid-19 and we are delighted to assist governments and public health officials in ensuring that everyone who wants the vaccine can have access to it,” Cadogan said.

He thanked the frontline workers for their daily sacrifices and efforts throughout the pandemic. A sentiment echoed throughout the nation and around the globe.
