The Government of Grenada is very concerned about the decision by Caribbean Agro Industries to effect price increases during the Covid-19 pandemic, even after it was advised against doing so by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Consumer Affairs.
Government is also concerned that increasing the price of basic commodity items will exacerbate the social and economic challenges confronting families, as many are already dealing with reduced income and loss of jobs because of the pandemic.
This concern was expressed to Caribbean Agro when the company first communicated the planned price increase for flour and animal feed, and a request was made to maintain prices at the current levels.
Government is therefore appalled by the decision to proceed with the implementation of the price hike, a move which will cause additional hardship for Grenadians at this time, and negatively affect the growth and development of the poultry sector.
Industry officials had previously expressed concern about the impact of the monopoly on the development of the poultry sector and the increased cost of feed will make it more difficult to generate the jobs and the production capacity that will foster the growth of the industry.
Government assures the general public that it will do whatever it can to remedy the situation.
A Cabinet sub-committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Consumer Affairs will convene a meeting this week with Caribbean Agro Industries to deal with the issue.

Speaking of flour and price increases. Out driving mid day March 4 and observed a trail of grain (probably wheat) from the port all the way to Caribbean Agro. It’s impossible to know the quantity lost, but judging from the amount on the road, it could easily have been 50 lbs. or more – enough to supply a Grenadian family with flour for many months. Is this the best they can do?
I agree with every single word you have written here..we need more people like you to say it for us. God bless you
You are watching Grenada being sold, piece by piece…
Dear Government, stop blaming everything on the businesses that are trying to stay in business. You received OVER ONE BILLION EC in 2020 to assist ALL PERSONS ON GRENADA due to the effects of the covid lockdowns. WHERE IS THE MONEY? You are such a corrupt government you can smell the stink 5,000 miles away. You have cancelled capital projects that were approved and those monies allocated, which is illegal, you are refusing to honour the bargaining for the Teachers pay rise of 4%. The costs of transportation for raw materials has risen by 300% to bring goods to Grenada that you CANNOT grow or make on the island. You could have negotiated a different way of paying out your Grenlec obiliation to help the economy.
Now you are allowing that Egyptian to try to buy ALL OF GRAND ANSE BEACH. !! You MUST NOT allow this man to own any more land on the island or he will control what happens, ignoring the environmental controls that are never enforced and then continue to apply pressure for the useless government to do whatever he wants.
