The Kimpton Kawana Bay project would like to clarify reports from local media regarding the construction of the project’s service yard wall adjacent to the Morne Rouge road.
As part of its goodwill to the community and being mindful of the flow of traffic in the area, the Kawana Bay project widened the existing road surface of Morne Rouge by a minimum of 5 feet, from the start of the project site and continuing toward the top of the hill at the Rotary club. This was done as soon as the project resumed full-time construction operations after the lockdown in 2020. To accommodate the widening of the road, a section thereof was also constructed within the Kawana Bay property boundary.
As indicated on our planning department approved construction documentation, the construction of the service yard wall falls well within the Kimpton Kawana Bay property, and serves as a boundary between the resort and the road. The position of this wall was confirmed by both a local internal and local external registered land surveyor, to ensure that we construct the wall within the boundaries of our property and in accordance with the approved construction plan.
At every stage in our development process, Kimpton Kawana Bay has adhered to the terms and conditions of the development, as approved by the Physical Planning Development Unit and other relevant authorities.
The developers continue to be sensitive to the needs of the community and have always attempted to keep any disruption of the traffic on the main road to a minimum. As a result, we ensured that the scaffolding was constructed and removed within the same afternoon, to enable us to complete the construction of the wall. This will ultimately form part of the wider rejuvenation of the area around the project, including the upgrading, beautification and resurfacing of the Morne Rouge main road, and the rehabilitation of the existing access footpath between Grand Anse Beach and Morne Rouge.
Kimpton Kawana Bay takes seriously its commitment to the people of Grenada and will continue to abide by construction and environmental best practices, as well as exercise its corporate social responsibility in building a project community of which the developers and the people of Grenada can be proud.
