The Kimpton Kawana Bay project would like to clarify reports from local media regarding the construction of the project’s service yard wall adjacent to the Morne Rouge road.
As part of its goodwill to the community and being mindful of the flow of traffic in the area, the Kawana Bay project widened the existing road surface of Morne Rouge by a minimum of 5 feet, from the start of the project site and continuing toward the top of the hill at the Rotary club. This was done as soon as the project resumed full-time construction operations after the lockdown in 2020. To accommodate the widening of the road, a section thereof was also constructed within the Kawana Bay property boundary.
As indicated on our planning department approved construction documentation, the construction of the service yard wall falls well within the Kimpton Kawana Bay property, and serves as a boundary between the resort and the road. The position of this wall was confirmed by both a local internal and local external registered land surveyor, to ensure that we construct the wall within the boundaries of our property and in accordance with the approved construction plan.
At every stage in our development process, Kimpton Kawana Bay has adhered to the terms and conditions of the development, as approved by the Physical Planning Development Unit and other relevant authorities.
The developers continue to be sensitive to the needs of the community and have always attempted to keep any disruption of the traffic on the main road to a minimum. As a result, we ensured that the scaffolding was constructed and removed within the same afternoon, to enable us to complete the construction of the wall. This will ultimately form part of the wider rejuvenation of the area around the project, including the upgrading, beautification and resurfacing of the Morne Rouge main road, and the rehabilitation of the existing access footpath between Grand Anse Beach and Morne Rouge.
Kimpton Kawana Bay takes seriously its commitment to the people of Grenada and will continue to abide by construction and environmental best practices, as well as exercise its corporate social responsibility in building a project community of which the developers and the people of Grenada can be proud.
Kimpton Kawana Bay
Kimpton’s wall is practically in the road. Meanwhile, a poor man building a little house wne put up a fence physical planning comes with all they measuring apparatus to make sure it’s set back at the appropriate mark from the boundary.. I have never seen any house with a wall as their boundary in the road …. and mind you… l live near to the road. I saw a neighbor try to erect a chain link fence and same physical planning make him take it down saying it too close to the road…. but Kimpton built a whole wall in the road. I am not opposed to developing but why does it have to involve slaughter of the land… look at those countries that embrace their environment and build eco friendly resorts that incorporating natural trees and ponds into the resort… why aren’t we doing that. We talking about climate change but we slash and burn everything.
And yes, silver sands has ruined the beach, mangroves were created by God for a purpose. Have you seen the algae now in the water right in front of silver sands…. it is as a result of no filtering…which is what the mangrove does. We can’t say oh its development and destroy the country… what will it have 10 years from now?
look at that. according to kieth mitchell the same stupid foolish selfish ignorant people didnt know that the road from the police station in grand anse all the way down to bbc beach will be resurfaced. little did they know that grenadians can have full access to the compound and resturants. Some stupid ignorant foolish person like D.Hart is one with a third world country mindset. One that cries down the development of a country
THE PEOPLE OF GRENADA WANTED DEVELOPMENT THEY WANTED WORK AND THEY WANTED TO MAKE MONEY SO HERE IT IS ALL COMING TO REALITY. WHAT IS IT THAT GRENADIANS THEM SELVES CAN DO BRING DEVELOPMENT IN THE COUNTRY THAN TALKING A BUNCH OF BS.
wow. black grenadian people are something else. they want to go in north america and europe and call it a vacation but they dont want people coming here as tourists? such a shame. grenadians never see anything for the greater good. according to kieth mitchell a bunch of “stupid, foolish selfish people who cant even go out there to do something for poor grenadians by giving them a means of employment and income.
I don’t know why people are starting to become hostile towards development. people wanted development and here it is but at the same i just dont get why people are starting to cry it down.
Bunch of liars. That is the ugliest concrete jail posing as a hotel. It is also RIGHT ON THE BEACH !!! It not located as far back as it should be. We have traded the beauty and sympathetic construction of the former Flamboyant hotel for this huge concrete crap that has not only destroyed the beach there, but the view for everyone located behind this development. Huge concrete walls do not serve anyone. A ” barrier” is just that saying Grenadians keep out. Just like the loss of the view when Silver Sands built their huge wall all the way around the resort. Hate, hate hate what these awful developments have done to the natural beauty of Grenada. You talk about climate change and protection but you endorse these shoreline destroying developments.
Couldn’t agree more
talking about hotels coming to grenada and the destruction of this country, if you cared so much about this country then why wouldnt you not talk about the far worst destruction grenadians have been doing their selves by illegally dumping garbage and abandoning imported vehicles on the side of the road. talking about the fact that you claim silver sands took away the beauty of some wet bushy swamplands down on grand anse beach that no one even knew about. you need to get your common sense together. there needs to be construction in order for this country to move forward and go on. seriously.
so ignorant and foolish to not mention the fact that half of the hotels being replaced were some old delapidated outdated buildings that had been called hotels were far out of the range of world standards. like i mean cmon man. you want development for the betterment of your country but at the same time you cry it down like make no sense!
There is a law saying that the max. height of any building at Grand Anse Beach or adjacent to it shall be equvivlant to 4 stories. How much kick back did Kimpton Kawana Bay give to Keith Mitchell to bypass this law? Why doesn’t any Grenadians react on this illeagal construction project?
