The Government of Grenada is advising the general public of new policy guidelines for visiting elderly persons who are institutionalised in homes across the country.
Visits are now permitted for fully vaccinated persons, whose elderly relatives are also vaccinated.
Persons who are not vaccinated will be required to sign a waiver, relieving the Government or private home administrators of any liability, in the event of potential transmission of Covid-19.
In recognition of the susceptibility of older persons to Covid-19, restrictions were placed on visits to elderly homes as part of lockdown measures instituted in March 2020.
The new visitation guidelines are part of Government’s ongoing efforts to restore normalcy to the operations of various sectors.
There are 10 Government-owned and privately run elderly homes across the country.
Members of the public who will be visiting their elderly relatives are encouraged to adhere to all Covid-19 protocols in place at the various elderly homes, particularly the wearing of masks, sanitisation and physical distance.

Loneliness and lack of human touch, already isolated and now denied visits by loved ones is sending many elderly to an early grave or into depression and mental illness.
Wearing masks, sanitizing, social distancing should continue and enforced in all homes as a requirement for visitations. Being fully vaccinated does not prevent one from contracting or spreading the virus. In fact it might just lull one into a false sense of security. The staff in the care homes are not isolated in the homes in which they work – they go in and out. How many wear masks throughout their entire shift? Please, let’s be sensible and stop depressing and locking away our loved ones. We need to visit and will be sensible and caring by following all the protocols. Don’t use the elderly to force people into having a vaccine that doesn’t give 100% protection
