  • First quarter of 2021, 51 reports received, an increase of 64.7% over 2020
  • Of 51 reports received, 26 reports were of 11 to 16 age group
  • All victims female

Some men over the age of 50, according to the latest data from the Sex Crimes Unit of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF), seem to be sexually attracted to minors under the age of 8.

“A major concern from the data that we collected is accused persons over 50 years of age and the victim 8 years and under. We had an accused 59 years whose victim was 3 years. We had an accused 51 years, the victim 5 years; an accused 50 years the victim 6 years; accused 57 years the victim 7 years,” said Inspector Maureen Stanisclaus of the Sex Crimes Unit. “These incidents are persons who were known to the victims, they were not strangers.”

Stanisclaus shared the data during the 2021 first quarter briefing of the RGPF. “This is of great concern to us. We need members of the community to help us to reduce these incidents,” she said.

All the victims are females and the crimes fall in the category of indecent or sexual offences. Incident offences mainly include exposing the body parts and touching of breast, buttocks etc, while sexual offences include oral sex, use of object or fingers to penetrate the vagina and or anus.

For the first quarter of 2021, the Sex Crimes Unit recorded 51 reports compared to 2020 when there were 33 reports – an increase of 64.7%. “Of that number our concern and the concern of the RGPF is the age group 11 to 16. In 2021 of the 51 reports received, 26 reports were of the age group 11 to 16 as compared to 2020 where there were 33 reports and 16 was from the age group 11 to 16,” Stanisclaus said, calling on the public to continue reporting known or suspected incidents to her Unit. “The RGPF cannot do it alone. We need the community. You must report, do not stay silent. What you see you must pass the information to us.”

Stanisclaus reminded parents that minors should only be left with trusted adults. “Know who you are leaving your children with.”

Paedophiles are disgusting and should be surgically castrated. Their attraction also lies in the fact that children of this age are easier to groom and less likely to expose their crimes.

A very subjective and misleading assertion in the first statement of the article, that men over 50 SEEM to be attracted to underage children.
First off, are you saying ALL men over 50? Or just sex offenders over the age of 50? In either case, it is a misleading statement. Not all people who commit sexual crimes against children are attracted to them and conversely, not all persons who are attracted to children commit sexual offences against them. It is important to note that sex abusers often act out of opportunity – the child being used in place of an available adult or the abuser wanting to show dominance over another person.
A more responsible opener would have been to the effect of “Evidence suggests that male sex offenders have a tendency to target victims under the age of 8”

I hear what you are saying but I feel like you’re steering away from the point too much.

The point is that sexual offending is rising on our island and more people need to come forward. Parents need to stop being so trusting with their girl children. Know who you’re leaving your child with, better yet, limit the time your girl child is in a mans care.

As usual let us just put the blame on parents why don’t we because as usual this seems to be the easy option. I have been a social worker for over 30 years. let us be clear. Children are rarely abuse by people whom they do not know. In other words we all have a responsibility to think the “unthinkable” to be “curious” to protect our children to ensure that they are not left in a vulnerable position. Let ‘s be clear 50 year old men (age is irrelevant) are not “attracted” to young girls. Lets just call it what it is they are “abusers sex offenders.
It is “EVERBODYS RESPOSNIBLITY TO PROTECT CHILDREN TO RENDER THEM LESS VULNERABLE IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD “
