Grenada’s Ministry of Social Services & Gender Affairs has offered counselling services to the families and close relatives of Lindy Morain, the female victim in the island’s first homicide this year.
The Ministry confirms that it has begun its outreach and that its counsellors have begun intervention with the victim’s teenaged daughter.
“We are very concerned about the effects this traumatic incident would have had on the community, and especially on Lindy’s relatives,” Social Services Minister Honourable Delma Thomas said Tuesday.
The Minister described the death of Morain as “a complete tragedy.” She added, “Every incident like this speaks to the need for us as a society to deal more effectively with conflict resolution.”
“This level of violence against anyone, and especially women must always be frowned upon,” Minister Thomas added.
The alleged perpetrator is currently in police custody helping with the investigation into the killing.

How many people have been murdered by the massive corruption of this little government? Corruption money is money taken from healthcare and other public services that means people die. Keep drinking that kool-aid of cheap cigarettes and beer to keep the masses quiet.
While the murderer should be held accountable we must remember that he committed the crime and not his family. Therefore counciling should also be offered to his child(ren) and his family members as they too must be going through the pain horror and grief based on the crime that their loved one committed. His family are also tax paying Grenadian citizen. I put myself in victims family position and the murderers family position and I see victims on both sides. This is just my compassionate opinion
Well I hope counseling won’t be one off and the state will commit to helping this child financially. It’s time these burdens fall on the criminal and their families. The criminals have everything set up for them and paid for by the state. They go to prison where they get shelter and food. They can take classes, learn a skill, do CXC etc. Then come out and continue life as normal.
Meanwhile the family is left to pick up the pieces on their own. They have to bury the deceased. A family member who might already be struggling to make ends meet has to take in the child, they have to find money to send her to school etc. All the burden falls on them. So it’s more than counseling. It’s time new methods be considered. You commit a crime, take their money or their family own to support the victims. Too many times the victim’s family is forgotten and left by the wayside to fend for themselves…. when everything hot everyone want to help and when things cool down, they are forgotten.
Well said. I totally agree with you.
The police have this man in custody. Properly try him in court then properly sentence him and do so in a timely manner. Violence is on the rise in Grenada and such offenders must be dealt with harshly. What has happened on the island in recent years? Violence and crime on the rise… that is a path that leads nowhere.
Being the first person to be murdered in the country says a lot about our citizens and sad for the family of the victim.
Counselling should be standard when it comes to the victims of such violence and we also have to look into why this has happened.
