- Private sector will lead on vaccine hesitancy
- St George’s University and Grenada Cooperative Bank mandated that all staff be vaccinated
- An outbreak of Covid-19 poses run on our health system
Christopher De Allie, the Business Community-appointed Senator in the Upper House of Parliament, said that the private sector will lead in countering the issue of vaccine hesitancy among the population, and they are prepared for various fallout from such undertakings.
“We are going to get blows for it obviously; a lot of us are going to give deadlines. We going to give deadlines for staff members to get vaccinated; what happens when they don’t… is going to be a debate going forward and I know some of the challenges, but some of us are prepared to take up the challenge.” De Allie is the co-host of “Perspective” the weekly Monday morning current affairs television programme.
He said the only exception to becoming vaccinated will be individuals who have existing medical issues that will restrict them from becoming inoculated with the vaccine for Covid-19. Grenada began its vaccination programme in February, and to date, less than 20% of the eligible individuals have been vaccinated.
Two major private sector companies — St George’s University, and Grenada Cooperative Bank — have already mandated that all staff be vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine.
During last week’s sitting of the Upper House, one of the main bills approved was the “Covid-19 Cancellation of Carnival August Celebrations Bill, 2021. De Allie gave his full support to the legislation which removes bank holidays for 9 and 10 August 2021. This means that just like in 2020, Grenada will have no carnival celebrations in 2021.
Though he gave his support to the legislation, De Allie expressed his concern about the current slow pace at which the vaccine is accepted in this country. Explaining that the percentage of individuals already vaccinated is far from herd immunity, he said that eligible citizens are refusing to be responsible. “The issue here is that we as a people have not taken up the responsibility of getting ourselves to the point where we can say safely that we can resume to some level of normalcy… we all have to take some level of responsibility for that,” he said.
“We cannot be given the possibility of vaccination for a solution and will stand here and debate the scientific pros and cons. It is a personal decision that people have to make, and I think if they don’t make it personally there will be consequences for and against,” he told the House, pointing out that one of the consequences could be a run on our health system if there is an outbreak of Covid-19.
I am so confused. . . He said the only exception to becoming vaccinated will be individuals who have existing medical issues that will restrict them from becoming inoculated with the vaccine for Covid-19. >>> He also said this: “It is a personal decision that people have to make, and I think if they don’t make it personally there will be consequences for and against,” >>>> What does that mean? And he worries about the small number of people who choose not to take it.
It’s a personal choice but there are consequences to our choices. Make whatever choice is best for you, but be prepared to live with those consequences. There are so many stories of “I shoulda, woulda, coulda” after individuals who chose not to be vaccinated, get Covid is hospitalized, their spouse dies, needs a double lung transplant etc. All it takes is 1 case of the delta variant for Grenada to be in a serious crisis. Less than 20% vaccinated and we want to return to normal, shows all over, have carnival etc.
I understand you say this but what about those are are vaccinated however is still being hospitalised and even dies as a result of covid 19, we only talk about and praise the vaccine bit never talk about the negatives
“It is a personal decision that people have to make…” and if you don’t make the decision we want, you will have all your rights stripped and be restricted from ever having a normal life again.
People you do realise that the same groups who created SARS back in the late 1990’s (US Patent No:7279327), also created SARS-CoV-1, also created SARS-CoV-2, also funded “gain of function” research in the US and China, also shipped “COVID-19 testing equipment” to hundreds of countries in 2018, also created the PCR casedemic, also created the so-called vaccine, and on and on.
This is comparable to your doctor having someone shoot you in the leg and then demanding your life savings to operate on you, but on an unimaginable scale.
so called vaccine…..this is so correct and is what I am trying to explain from the beginning. Vaccine is something which stops you from catching a disease i.e. Polio, whooping cough etc. This is not a vaccine. After it is administered one can still get sick AND spread Covid.
All we are receiving in this little Paradise is pressure and control. Come home little children before midnight or else you catch covid. Restaurants Pubs etc close early because Grenadians can not estimate how long it takes to drive/walk home…..as if we are irresponsible little children -control control control and now force if you don’t take it you loose your job. More people unemployed breeding criminality.
And de Allie, we are concerned about no pace in accounting for the Garden Group fiasco.. how much?? 11 Million ….you have NO credibility… time to bow out and retire …different package..same product..no substance….move on..
De Allie…. You are conflicted….and now talking
This tripe…maybe you should get out of the NNP pocket and have an unbiased, independent view ..lol…all and sundry know…where is the Garden Group money…please elaborate as you have now…a time is coming for: accountability …for this regime and people as You?..take note…
Making it mandatory!!…control over you…People stand up and fight for ur rights,Do people not have a choice or free will or rights anymore…
