The lighting of the Hillsborough Playing Field in Carriacou was officially commissioned on Friday, 12 November, becoming the second lit sporting field facility on the island.
This gesture forms part of Government’s commitment to the development of young people and sports in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
In speaking at the commission ceremony, Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs & Local Government Hon. Kindra Maturine-Stewart said that the project is a testimony of what can be achieved through the partnership of Government, community and stakeholders, and extended gratitude to the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), the Chinese Embassy in Grenada, and Grenlec for their partnership in bringing the project to fruition.
She added that as a continuation of Government’s commitment towards the development of young people in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, an additional 2 playing fields, the Petite Martinique and Harvey Vale playing fields, will be lit to further expand on the investment in 2022.
Representing the National Lotteries Authority, Richard Roberts, said that the NLA continues to ensure that Carriacou and Petite Martinique receives their fair share of support through sponsorships and community partnerships and saw it fitting to get on board with the project.
Also speaking at the commission ceremony was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs Rholda Quamina, who believes that the project will add revenue in the town of Hillsborough.
