- Arriving unvaccinated Grenadian nationals to be quarantined for up to 7 days
- Fully vaccinated passengers can use other means of transportation from airport
- Whoever is picking them up must also be fully vaccinated
Unvaccinated Grenadian nationals who are entering the country will have to be quarantined for up to 7 days. Those who are fully vaccinated will no longer have to undergo 48 hours of quarantine.
This new travel entry protocol went into effect on Monday, 15 November 2021.
“For persons who are travelling right now, just ensure that you have your proof of vaccination, your PCR test because the PCR test of travel within 72 hours is required. Just ensure that you have these to travel into Grenada,” Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Shawn Charles said during Tuesday’s post-Cabinet briefing.
Health Minister Nickolas Steele said that “Fully vaccinated passengers can use other means of transportation to get to their destination besides the designated taxis at the airport, but whoever is picking them up must also be fully vaccinated.”
As of May 2021, Grenada’s entry mandate stated only fully vaccinated non-nationals will be allowed into the country and they will remain in quarantine for 48 hours. They were tested upon arrival at the Maurice Bishop International Airport, transferred to a quarantine facility and once the PCR was negative, they were free to leave.
The authorities cannot stop nationals from returning, and thus if they are unvaccinated, they must be quarantined for no more than 7 days with a PCR test conducted on the 5th day.
The onset of the winter season is resulting in increased landings of commercial passenger aircraft from main tourism markets like the USA, Canada, UK, and Germany. Data from the Grenada Tourism Authority show that between January and April incoming passengers were in the hundreds but as of May, the monthly incoming passengers began arriving in the thousands.
That number is expected to continue in the thousands but will not exceed the 2019 figures. A total of 224,062 passengers arrived in that year.
A sensitive and positive move. Also, please review the current mandatory travel insurance rule, returning to a voluntary recommendation. A major expense and deterrent for us senior folks visiting Grenada for long term stays.
You’re damn right!
But this nonsense happens when robots make decisions.
So stupid!!
The logic behind vaccine passports makes no sense. If both VA vaccinated and unvaccinated can contract and spread the virus where the prohibition on unvaccinated persons? In fact, unvaccinated people have a higher probability of appearing asymptomatic and research has shown that they can also test negative while being infectious. Therefore what these governments are doing as protective measures just make this situation appear even more like a circus side shoe.
Letting ANYBODY in without at least a 7 day quarantine is ridiculous. Surely by now we all know that vaccinated people are transmitting the virus at the same rate as unvaccinated people if they get exposed, which could easily happen on the way to or in the departing airport. Which is why the National who came and started this latest outburst before she tried to return to America did the damage she did. But it was the ludicrous reduction to 48 hrs which opened the flood gates. Now they want to go one stage further for the very same group that created the latest wave of deaths.
Yes we want visitors, both as tourists and returnees on holiday.
But it is inevitable that with the lowering of standards even further the next new normal will be mandates that everyone gets vaccinated so the dollar can roll.
As for this foolish only vaccinated people can pick up from the airport, what idiot dreamed that up. Sure if it is part of the tourist industry maintaining that “bubble” that makes sense, but to stop a local picking up a person who is going to their house of general location is daft.
you are right my friend, this is criminally stupid
Does this mean fully vaccinated nationals with proof of pcr test 36hrs prior to arrival do not have to have pcr test on arrival at grenada airport
right, fully-vaccinated only need one PCR test (the one prior to arrival). You don’t have to take one after arriving anymore. https://www.puregrenada.com/travel-advisory/
Also im wondering if the quarantine still has to happen at hotel or home?
