Spicemas 2022 was launched on 29 April 2022, as a result, the legislation takes effect from 29 April 2022 until Sunday, 14 August 2022.
“According to the Spicemas Corporation (Amendment) Act 8 of 2017, no person shall hold a carnival festival or activity at any time during the carnival period unless the person obtains a License.”
It therefore means, all persons desirous of hosting any carnival-related or festive activity must first obtain a Carnival Festival License from the Spicemas Corporation (SMC) before applying to the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) for permission to play amplified music.
The process starts by first filling out an application form which cost $10.00. Everyone holding events must first visit the SMC office and file an application. The application will be evaluated and the licensing fee for ticketed events will be based on guidance in law, 5% of ticket sales. Non-ticketed events will be evaluated on the information provided in the application to determine the cost of the licence.
Again, the carnival period according to the Act commences on the date of the launch of carnival by the SMC and ends on the Sunday after the second Tuesday in August.
