The National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) is continuing to monitor the performance of its water systems as the island is currently under a tropical storm warning.
Earlier today, NAWASA released preparatory messages for the general public and appreciates the acceptance of our calls for persons to start the process of storage and management of water supply.
NAWASA’s Disaster Management Team met today, 27 June 2022 and enacted our Disaster Management Plan which focuses on activities to be undertaken for the protection of NAWASA’s infrastructure. The maintenance and restoration of water and sewerage services is of vital importance to national post disaster activities.
NAWASA intends over the next 18 hours to have most water treatment plants opened so that persons can fill their storage tanks and containers.
While most water systems are functioning as normal, plants such as Mardigras and Les Avocat are operating within the valve regulation schedules established during the month of May. Adjustments will be made to these schedules and communicated as water becomes available for distribution from tonight through to Tuesday.
The Concord Water System which was challenged with high turbidity during the course of today, will be reopened for distribution by 9 pm tonight. Persons on elevations should receive a supply by 11 pm tonight.
Our water tanker will return to the communities of Marian, Morne Jaloux, Golden Drive, Cocoa Road on Tuesday, 28 June 2022 to assist persons with storage.
Expected heavy rainfall can render water systems highly susceptible to turbidity and dam blockages hindering the production of water for an extended period.
NAWASA will be monitoring the situation on Tuesday, 28 June 2022 and will provide an update as information becomes available.
