Grenada team off to the Caribbean Games
Share

The Grenada Olympic Committee successfully celebrated Olympic Day last Saturday, 25 June under the theme “Together for a Peaceful World.”

Olympic Day is celebrated every year on 23 June, however, general elections in Grenada forced the date change.

The activities included members of the Board of Directors of the Grenada Olympic Committee meeting with the various national teams heading out to the first-ever Caribbean Games, including track and field, cycling and athletics as well as members of the Grenada Senior National Male Volleyball Team heading out to the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Championship to be held in Antigua from 6 – 13 July.

The Grenada Olympic Committee (GOC) directors met and pledged support for the construction of an international swimming pool by committing a donation of EC $132,000 to the local association.

The construction of an international swimming pool has been on the agenda for quite some time and the local swimming association is continuing with its efforts to raise the necessary funds to complete construction.

Athletes from different sporting disciplines were involved in educational activities on Olympic values and antidoping as well as participated in a hash organised by the GOC. The day ended with a hash, music, food and drinks and the celebration of Olympic Day.

The new Board of Directors of the local body has also pledged additional financial and technical support to all members of the Grenada Olympic Committee to ensure increased participation in future events.
