The National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) will institute a selective shutdown of its water distribution network from 5 pm today, Tuesday, 28 June 2022.
A meeting of its Disaster Management Team at 2 pm concluded that this was the best approach to safeguard the Authority’s infrastructure and employees. Expected heavy rainfall can render water systems highly susceptible to turbidity and dam blockages hindering the production of water for an extended period.
The Annandale, Mardigras, Morne Delice and Chemin Valley facilities will remain open. The Authority will monitor weather conditions and will interrupt the supply if it becomes necessary without prior notice given.
NAWASA is very happy that persons heeded the call on Monday, 27 June 2022 to fill up and prepare. NAWASA was able to keep the distribution network open during the course of today and the closure at 5 pm will protect the stored water to resume supply distribution on Wednesday, 29 June 2022.
