Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Timothy Antoine, says government has been collecting EC$5 million more in revenue on a monthly basis, a trend that is expected to continue.
During Tuesday’s post Cabinet news conference, Antoine said that the $40 million figure shows that “most of the tax types have performed better, obviously the leading one is the personal income tax. We have also seen improvements in the collection of the property tax.”
Antoine said that as a result of revenue collected by Customs and Inland Revenue, government is continuing its mission to narrow the fiscal gap.
“We have seen improvements with respect to certain service charges. [That is] to say, we continue to work very hard to make sure that everyone is making their contribution. So while we say we have met our targets, which is a fact, we do recognise that there are persons still to come into the net and that is what we are working on.”
