Prime Minister Dr the Right Hon. Keith Mitchell has extended congratulations to new Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr the Hon. Timothy Harris, who on Wednesday, 18 February, took the oath of office as the new head of government in the twin-island federation.
According to Grenada’s Prime Minister, “the swearing in of Dr Harris ushers in a new era of governance for St Kitts and Nevis. Democracy has triumphed over what could potentially have devolved into anarchy. But, the system ultimately showed that it was designed to represent the wishes of the people.”
Dr Mitchell went on to say that he looks forward to working with his new Caricom colleague. He expressed Grenada’s commitment to maintaining and advancing excellent relations with the government and People of St Kitts and Nevis.
In Monday’s general elections, Dr Harris’s Team Unity ousted the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), which had been in office for 20 years.
