An assortment of photos showing deceased Prime Minister Maurice Bishop with Cuba’s former leader Fidel Castro, along with historic information about Grenada, can can now be found at the Maurice Bishop School in Miramar, Havana, Cuba.

On Friday, 29 May, 2015, Her Excellency, Ambassador Claris Charles, grasped the opportunity to celebrate with the teachers and students of the Maurice Bishop School, who were commemorating the birthday of the slain Prime Minister of Grenada, Maurice Bishop.

A news release from Grenada’s Embassy in Cuba said that Ambassador Charles presented photos of the present Prime Minister, Dr the Right Hon. Keith Mitchell and Fidel, which were taken during one of his several visits to Cuba.

Other items which were given to the school included table flags of Grenada for each classroom, an indoor national flag, DVDs of historical and other famous sites, cultural songs and calypsos, photos of the late Maurice Bishop, as well as that of our present Governor-General, Dame Cécile La Grenade.

“The Ambassador was honoured with songs and poems by students. She pledged to help the school as much as possible and to raise the necessary funds to restore the playground,” said the release.

Apart from a restaurant in the Province of Holguín, this school is the second place in Cuba to be named after Grenada’s revolutionary Prime Minister.
