Grenada Appreciates China

The People’s Republic China has been commended by Government of Grenada for the significant role it has been playing in national development. Sen. Simon Stiell, on Tuesday, said the contribution China has been making in the area of education is not only worthy of recognition, but of high praise.

Grenada is seeing a year-on-year growth in the number of scholarships that the People’s Republic of China is offering to students, and the number of short-term specialist training courses for members of the public and private sector. “This is something that is very, very important for us, and is a significant contribution to what is taking place right now in education,” Sen. Stiell said.

He also mentioned China’s critical role in the development of Grenada’s tourism product, particularly their investment and involvement in the development, and the beautification of the Grand Etang area. “We have the gazebos under construction right now in Grand Etang. The facilities we had previously were in a bad state, so their contributions in the reconstruction of those gazebos, and the enhancement of our national attractions are of great value.”

Sen. Stiell also highlighted China’s involvement in other areas such as agriculture, sports development and housing. “We have 2 stadia, low income houses… there is a co-op agreement between Grenada and the People’s Republic of China for the development of the agricultural sector. So we cannot overstate the importance of the contribution that the People’s Republic of China is making in all areas of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique,” he said.
