  • JetBlue flight 950 encountered problems shortly after takeoff
  • Returned to tarmac after a loud explosion was heard
  • All passengers and crew are said to be safe

JetBlue Airways flight B6950/JBU950 an Airbus A320-232, departed Maurice Bishop International Airport, Point Salines, Grenada (GND) at 3:41 pm local time today, destined for John F Kennedy International Airport, New York (JFK).

JetBlue flight 950 encountered problems shortly after takeoff from the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) in St George and returned to the tarmac after a loud explosion was heard. All passengers and crews are said to be safe.

The pilot called the tower requesting a first aid emergency within minutes of being airborne.

People in the south of Grenada near the airport heard a loud explosion in the sky, and within minutes the plane was seen returning to the airport. It is reported that one of the engines failed.

The airport emergency protocol was immediately activated for the return of the plane. Wendy Francette–Williams, Chief Executive Officer at Grenada Airports Authority (GAA), has promised to speak with the media after her debriefing session.

Passengers and crew are currently in the departure area of the airport awaiting further instructions. The JetBlue website is showing the Grenada flight as delayed.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly reported that the aircraft released fuel before returning to the airport.

JETBLUE Airways has a very high standard of
maintenance. They use AIRBUS,being a low cost carrier, they were formed Delta Airlines sold subsidiary business and Airport business to enable future mergers. Some planes were bought from Airline Leasing Company. The maintenance and fabrication of planes with brand new parts. The planes are not allowed to operate without the inspection of the FAA. A bird could have been sucked into the engine. JETBLUE is in Germany,UK,Australia,Italy, etc.

For your information, JETBLUE has NOTHING to do with Delta. You’re thinking of SONG that Delta started to copy off of JETBLUE that was closed down. JetBlue was a startup from David Neeleman. Your facts aren’t correct.

I am relieved that this was not a major problem. JetBlue has a very good track record of flying, to Grenada and I trust them to get us to and from our destination safely.

I love Jetblue and I fly with them every trip to Grenada. I hope these flights are maintained properly so as not to have another occurrence. My fear of flying is now heightened and am hoping it will subside with the assurance that JetBlue will take corrective measures to make sure these flights are well maintained and provide newer and less worked flights to Grenada on a daily basis.
