Prime Minister, Dr the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, will deliver a national address Monday night, in which he is expected to announce the imposition of a curfew.
The curfew is intended to go into effect at 8 pm on Monday, 21 December 2020. It has become necessary as part of intensified efforts to contain the recently detected cluster of Covid-19 cases, which experienced a further spike Sunday with the confirmation of additional positive cases.
The full scope of Government’s heightened measures to safeguard the population will be discussed at a Cabinet meeting that will precede the Prime Minister’s address.
Dr Mitchell assures the nation, ahead of his address that a 24-hour lockdown will not be implemented at this time.
He said, “Daytime operation of businesses, including supermarkets, will continue as normal. Therefore, there is no need for panic buying and creating unnecessarily large gatherings which in turn create the environment for potential exposure to the deadly virus. Business owners and managers, I call on you to firmly implement the required protocols and ensure that customers are wearing their masks appropriately, sanitising upon entry and remaining socially distanced.”
The Prime Minister’s address will be broadcast on GIS TV, Channel 22 at 8 pm on Monday and will be available on the GIS Facebook and YouTube pages. Persons can also tune in via other radio and television stations and social media platforms.

This guy needs to resign and go into retirement. He has done enough damage already, and he is making less and less sense at this point in time, just whole lot of long rambling statements. By the way, he never made sense in the first place
Stop this. The move is for our benefit. We are too sensible for such nonsene. Look at new york. People were in lockdown for weeks. The increases in cases now is mainly due to those who fail to comply. Listen avoid the crowds, wear your masks, social distance, whats so hard in complying with these regulations.
Grenadians are too educated for such negative responses. I don’t hear complaints about those not wearing the masks. The government should impose the curfew weeks ago. Don’t reason like some foolish American dictators who say covid is curable. Curable with lots of side effects for those who survive. Listen to international news and educate yourselves about covid. If you don’t care about yourselves then give some thoughts to your neighbour’s well being. Recognize the good that is being done for the nation. New york was under lockdown for weeks and they saw the benefits despite the many deaths. Today the people affected most are those who fail to comply. Just social distance and wear your masks avoid the crowd.you wont die if you do so. Stop the nonsense.
Unless this so called Prime Minister – a visionless dictator really – will be stating (a) he will be resigning or (b) a structured limited lockdown then he should not have any address. what a waste. he is just inept.
Our prime minister is doing what he is told by WHO which is part of the requirements of that $25m loan .
Now he has a chance to make amends for the error with allowing buses to carry ful capacity when funeral and weddings are only allowed 10 in attendance.
So we wait and see what is the next steps we have to follow.
