Rendering of the Beach House by Silversands, Grooms Beach (Parc à Boeuf), Point Salines, St George

Grenada continues to attract significant investment in the tourism industry. The latest demonstration of the high level of investor confidence in the local economy came on Wednesday, with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Beach House project.

The US$20 million project is the second hotel development in Grenada for Naguib Sawiris, the owner of Silversands Grenada. Construction will begin in June this year, with completion anticipated within 18 months.

Prime Minister, Dr the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell has welcomed this latest investment in the country, which will create 200 jobs in the construction phase and up to 100 permanent jobs upon completion.

Dr Mitchell said, “This is Naguib’s second project in Grenada and I must say that to date, he has proven to be a man of his word. Many people present plans and drawings on paper but nothing materialises. Naguib has delivered before and I am fully confident that he will deliver again. He has demonstrated great love for Grenada and has invested his own resources into the country; there has not been a single Citizenship by Investment application attached to his projects. This clearly demonstrates his personal investment in the country and that is commendable.”

The Prime Minister used the occasion to reiterate the need for vaccination as the key element in getting the economy moving again. He called on persons in the private sector to join the call for Grenadians to be vaccinated.

Dr Mitchell said, “Not enough of our people are speaking out on the issue of vaccination, of protecting what we have here. The beauty of the country and the friendliness of our people are well-known, our low Covid-19 infection rate is earning us excellent reviews on the international stage, the critical point now, is maintaining that perception and expanding it in terms of real development. The private sector has a significant role to play in the local economy and they have invested heavily, therefore I cannot understand why they are so silent on the matter. It is also more than hoteliers; the pandemic has affected all sectors of the economy and representatives of all the sectors need to be speaking out on this matter. We all have a stake in the future of this country.”

Dr Keith Mitchell and Naguib Sawiris turned the sod to start work on the Beach House project

The current Beach House facility has 30 rooms and the investor has declared his intention to expand, doubling the number of rooms to 60.

Tourism Minister Honourable Clarice Modeste Curwen welcomes the addition to Grenada’s room stock. Providing figures that illustrate a great disparity between the number of hotel rooms in Grenada and other Caribbean countries, Minister Modeste-Curwen said, “Room stock is a major factor in negotiating with airlines to fly to Grenada; it is what we need as leverage to bring more flights and more people. Therefore, I appreciate the additional rooms that will be coming and in talking to the airlines, we can speak of the significant improvements we are making in that regard.”

Sawiris also disclosed plans for other developments that will further add to Grenada’s room stock, including a second Silversands at Mt Cinnamon and 2 hotels at Port Louis. Like the Tourism Minister, he also underscored the importance of room stock in attracting flights.

“With the various hotel developments now on stream, they will add a significant number of rooms to Grenada’s room stock. Hopefully, that will kill the jargon from the airlines that they cannot fly here because there are insufficient rooms to accommodate their load,” Sawiris said.

The Beach House project will include an elegant Italian restaurant, spa and gym services and water sports.

Dr Grooms, one of the last unspoilt beaches with easy public access away from the hubbub of Cruise ship folk . Dr Grooms one of the main reasons for vacationing in Grenada every year .
    So sad!

And where is the potable water, sewage treatment, trash disposal, electricity and sufficient roads to support this increase? All these need to be upgraded PRIOR to any soil being turned for any further hotels. The citizens paid for the original services, the hotels need to pay for the expansions necessitated by their guests.

Funny to see how the PM says the country is beautiful but he’s the same one giving foreign investors right to destroy (salt point, levera Ramsar site etc.) All that makes the country beautiful. How about nice board bungalows engulfed in nature rather than slashing all trees and building concrete monstrosities. These tourist pay good money to go to Bali and the likes for its natural resorts… meanwhile we have what’s natural and throwing it away.

Then there’s the usual lies. This is a CBI project…… one reputable CBI agent was posting about it (they attended the ceremony) and the caption is….. Grenada’s latest CBI project. So who it really lying to us.

We are in a sad way. Slavery 2.0

As long as “investors” do “favors” for a particular government official Grenada will keep getting sold off to foreigners. Soon, all will see a beautiful that once was…

This greedy man has far too much influence already on Grenada. He is trying to buy ALL of Grand Anae Beach and then it will totally be destroyed. He owns too much
Hey is going to destroy what is left of the nature at Port Louis, he has Tufftenhall, he has the old SGU campus and the Riviera site, plus more. He closed the Beach House when he first came to Grenada and those people lost their jobs for years now. He cheated on where the development should have stopped at Silver Sands. Now the GTA is suvking along with this man for so called tourism education. He will destroy The mountain above Pandy Beach also. He is NOT Grenada’s friend. Tjise jobs they talk about in construction, he brings people from other countries to do the fine work he will not hire Grenadians. So don’t be sucked in again. He only wants what he can take and with his money He could take what is left of all beaches.

Keith lies when he claims that airlines demand more hotel rooms before they will fly to Grenada. That is pure crap, mo airline tells a country to build more hotels. It is not their concern where Tourists find accommodation. Don’t be sucked in again.

Grenada law states that 165 feet or 50 metres from the high water mark shall remain public ,So why has this development fenced of the beach frontage to about 30 feet ! and the other new hotel at the far end of same beach built almost to the sea
What is going on with these developments, dont think you need many geusses

Grenada law states that 50 metres- 165 feet from the high water mark are public. So why have this development been allowed to erect a fence app. 35 feet from h,w mark, also the new hotel at far end of the beach is about 15 ft from h.w mark .Why are these flagrant offences being allowed, draw your own conclusions

“there has not been a single Citizenship by Investment application attached to his projects.”
That’s not true, because the villas which form part of the Silversands project are for sale under CBI.
