The Grenada Senior Men’s National Team (SMNT) delivered commanding performances to secure victories over both the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Cuba at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium.

Grenada opened the FIFA October window with a decisive 4–1 victory against BVI on Wednesday, 8 October, followed by a well-earned 2-0 win over Cuba on Saturday, 11 October, extending the SMNT’s winning streak to 5 consecutive matches.

“These results reflect the hard work being done behind the scenes and the commitment of the players to representing Grenada with pride and purpose,” said Head Coach Anthony Nixon Modeste. “What we have seen last week is a team that is growing in confidence, depth, and cohesion,” he continued.

Match recaps and key performances

In the first fixture against BVI, Myles Hippolyte gave the home side an early advantage with a brace in the 10th and 39th minutes. Despite BVI pulling one goal back in the second half, Deanroy Phillip made a memorable impact off the bench, scoring in the 76th minute and again in stoppage time (90+3′), sealing a dominant 4–1 result.

Saturday’s encounter against Cuba was a more tactical and disciplined affair, with Grenada maintaining their shape, sustaining pressure, and capitalising on key opportunities. D’Margio Wright-Phillips opened the scoring, while the team’s cohesive defensive structure and controlled midfield play effectively limited Cuba’s attacking threats. Captain Shavon John-Brown added Grenada’s second goal before halftime, securing a confident 2-0 result.

Wright-Phillips earned his first cap for Grenada after joining the team ahead of the friendly against Cuba. The 22-year-old forward is the son of former England international Shaun Wright-Phillips and the grandson of Arsenal and England legend Ian Wright. He previously represented England at the U15 and U16 levels, and his addition to the squad further highlights the expanding reach and international credibility of Grenadian football.

Building for the future

Last week’s matches also highlighted the GFA’s growing emphasis on youth integration and talent development. Two standout members of Grenada’s U17 national programme, Raheem Raeburn and Josh Thomas, were called up to the senior squad. Raeburn, who was identified by the GFA and sent to an academy in Germany this past summer, is currently the leading scorer in the Grenada Premier League. His selection is a direct reflection of the association’s strategic commitment to bridging youth development with senior-level opportunity.

Additionally, A J Paterson made a welcomed return to the national squad after a 3-year hiatus, contributing experience and stability to the midfield.

“We are proud of the progress being made, not just in results but in the culture, we are building within the national team,” said GFA President Marlon Glean. “These victories are important, but so too is our mission to create a sustainable football program that allows players, from grassroots to elite, to grow, compete, and thrive at every level,” he continued.

United behind the flag

The GFA extends heartfelt thanks to all fans, supporters, sponsors, and match officials who helped create an unforgettable atmosphere at both fixtures. The energy in the stadium was electric and played a critical role in motivating the players to perform at their best.

With 2 strong performances behind them, Grenada’s Senior Men’s National Team will now focus on continuing their preparations for upcoming competitive fixtures on the international calendar.
